2. Dollar$ and $en$e
And the hits just keep in coming. As soon as the Yankees and Jacoby Ellsbury agreed to 7 years and $153-million, the New York Rangers and their goalie 31-year-old Henrik Lundqvist made a deal for 7 years $59.5 million. Shows you the difference between hockey and baseball. The goalie is clearly more important than the leadoff hittter/center fielder and yet the “glamorous” baseball free agent commands so much more. The good news for hockey is that when Lundqvist’s contract inevitably becomes dead weight, it won’t be as painful as a baseball deal.
3. That Ball is High…
Well, I guess I should have known that Top 5 subscribers always hit the high notes. Mort F. suggests a contest for Yankees announcer radio John Sterling’s home run call for Jacoby Ellsbury. He suggests “A Jacoby Jolt.” Or, “Jacoby jacks it out.”
How about “An Ell of a blast?”
4. Night Owls
Do sports teams do better playing during the day or night? Well if you’re a West Coast team in the NFL playing the East, lobby for night games. It turns out that playing at night gives West Coast teams a big advantage when it comes to winning and beating the point spread. How do we know this? Research done by Harvard and Stanford researchers figured it out. I guess they’ve run out of everything else to research at these fine institutions.
5. Trick Shot Titus
